Beyond Power VOLTRA I

Last updated on February 9th, 2024 at 05:12 pm

The Beyond Power VOLTRA I is a brand new offering on the market. I was lucky enough to be sent a PRE-release model back in July of 2023. In January of 2024 I received the production model, and now I’m working on an official review write-up and video for all of you.

Rack attached, up to 200lbs of resistance, with unique features like adjusting the eccentric and concentric portions… and this thing is pretty rad.

The price is tough though. And there are some things to consider when buying a smart device for the home gym that you might not have considered.

Key Notes

The Beyond Power VOLTRA I is a rack attached cable type offering with a TON of potential. Is it worth the price? Let’s find out!

Transparency Note

Beyond Power reached out to me to see if i was interested in their product and wanted to help them showcase it. I shared in my newsletter where people showed some excitement. I provided some additional notes on a few areas, scheduled an AMA with them on r/HomeGym, and they decided that they wanted to send me a unit for my support. As mentioned, I now have TWO units… the pre-release and the production model.

I’m not obligated to do anything but tell the truth and provide feedback. But I always want to be clear when and how I receive products for free. Especially when this is a $4,000 combo of equipment.

Beyond Power VOLTRA I Overview & Specs

The Beyond Power Voltra I is a rack attached unit, meant to work with basically any rack configuration you might have. Very similar to a cable unit, but the power is obviously not in weights but in the box itself. It can adjust from 5lb to 200lbs of resistance with the screen adjustments. You can also modify the eccentric or concentric portions of the lift.

The unit tracks your reps and sets as well and has metrics built into the iOS app (unfortunately right now it is only available for iOS, so I can not review this portion).

The original pre-realse unit came with two attachment options. A bolt on option (which I am currently using) or a 3×3 sliding rack attachment. With a 2×3 rack, the 3×3 piece had to be rigged to work, which wasn’t ideal. But now that I am rocking TWO units on the rack, one can adjust while the other stays up high for crossover style work.

The new sliding lock works similar to how jammer arms on a trolley work. This lets you slide the unit up and down your rack. If you had two set up this way, you’d have a full functional trainer and cable machine right on your rack. Disconnecting it takes a couple seconds, and setting it back up the same. The yellow pin allows you to quickly adjust up and down the rack, with the twist knob on the back meant to firmly grasp the rack when it place.

There is a number of other features I haven’t dug into yet, but will in the coming months.

Things I’m Looking For in the Beyond Power Voltra I

The idea of having a full functional trainer built on my rack that easily gets out of the way is pretty intriguing. I could drop the Inspire FT2, maybe get a leg press/hack squat combo? Who knows!

But the downside with rack attachments is always that they rarely work as well as the real deal. They shake, wobble, and function OK. I use my cable attachments way too often to not get the best out of them. So this needs to work like a stand alone cable unit in terms of feel and performance. I love the 1lb increments, but is that more annoying to adjust than just adjusting a pin? What about lat pulldowns, how do I set that up against my rack?

Does the battery last? How long? Does the “rope” last? How long? What happens if there is a malfunction, how do I get it serviced?

There is a lot to think about in a fully contained smart device that you don’t have to think about with weights. I’ll dig into all of these considerations and provide my overall thoughts on whether these should be on your rack in the future, or not.

✅ I’ll have a full review on this in a few months. Myself, my wife, and my daughter will play around with the Beyond Power VOLTRA I to see what we like, what we don’t, and share our thoughts. If you have something specific you’d like answered, let me know.

Also make sure to check out my dude Basement Brandon as he got a pair of Voltras as well.
