The BEST Cable Attachments For Your Garage Gym – 2025

Last updated on April 24th, 2025 at 04:45 pm

For me, cable attachments are one of the items in a garage gym we likely don’t have to sacrifice due to space constraints. I can’t have the best of the best of every machine. I have to make compromises in various nick nacks here and there to accomplish some accessories for the sake of space. But cable attachments? I can 100% have the BEST of the best in terms of fit and function and own a huge assortment of pieces with a solid storage option.

So that is exactly what I have attempted to do. One trick ponies, stainless steel, old school, new school, you name it. If it works better than the rest, it belongs here.

I LOVE cable attachments. My fascination began when I first used my MAG Grips. They unlocked a new understanding of nuanced cable attachment purchases that I probably should have never explored. But here we are, years later, with more knowledge about quality cable attachments than makes much sense.

So what am I to do with all of this knowledge floating around in my head about cable attachments? Put it into an article and share it with you of course! I also share at the end of this article some ways to store your cable attachments, as well as some accessories for your cable machine and more. So read to the end, I think it’ll be worth your time.

The Garage Gym Basics - Cable Attachments

Transparency Note

Some of these cable attachments I bought myself, some were sent to me for free, some I have Affiliate Links, and others I have nothing at all… To keep it simple, lets just say if you want to grab anything I mention in this article, there will be links and codes available throughout. Using those links will help what I do (sometimes with a monetary kick back, other times just letting them know I sent you), and cost you nothing.

What To Expect

This is going to be the no-holds barred BEST of the BEST Cable Attachments list. You’ll have multiple recommendations for each body part, sometimes with multiple attachments doing very similar things but in their own unique way.

This is for the cable attachment junky who wants to buy nothing but the best. The article today will be broken down into each body part, and then broken down by my FAVORITE cable attachments, and followed by some honorable mentions (where applicable) that deserve to be in the conversation. So you’ll find plenty of home runs today, as well as a lot of unique cable attachments, one trick ponies, and some attachments I can almost guarantee you haven’t seen before.

The favorites are items I own and use regularly and think you should DEFINITELY add to your rotation. The honorable mentions might be a unique piece here and there that I think deserve a mention in the BEST cable attachments discussion.

If you are looking to run a tighter ship, or are simply starting your cable attachment journey and want just a couple recommendations, check out this article on the First 5 Cable Attachments to buy for your home gym. You’ll get some excellent options that I still use regularly today.

What Makes A Good Cable Attachment?

There isn’t one definitive piece here. But to me, as per usual, it comes back to the goal. I’m not looking to blast a 1RM Seated Row. I want to build a BIG back. That same logic applies to all the rest of my attachments. I do cable work for hypertrophy purposes, so the cable attachments should be the BEST cable attachments at achieving that goal.

Back

Ideally, I like to support small shops, American Made companies, or simply companies doing unique things. You’ll see plenty of all of that in this article.

I would much rather own 5 cable attachments that are the best at each of their intended goals, than 1 attachment that does 5 things just kind of ok. I don’t need a cable attachment that also functions as a landmine handle, and a deadlift jack, and brews me a cup of coffee. It should SMASH my lats, or upper back, or biceps. I have no problems with a few attachments that do multiple things, but they better do them equally well.

What About Cable Attachment Packages?

Keep in mind that there are other basic attachments that can certainly get the job done. A triceps rope, a set of D-Handles, an EZ-Curl handle, and you can hit basically everything. If you want something super basic, the REP Fitness packages offer a lot of bang for the buck. I’d also take a look at the Body Solid Aluminum and Body Solid Rubber Grip packages. These aren’t exactly the BEST in each category, but you’ll have one of everything so to speak and be light years ahead of the amazon special products.

Best Cable Attachments For Chest

TRAK Handle Sports

The absolute BEST cable attachment for press and flye variations, and this isn’t even close, are the Trak Handle Sports.

TRAKHandles

I mentioned in my First 5 Cable Attachments list that these are arguably the GOAT of cable attachments due to the amount of uses, their design, free motion, durability and more.

These are a fully upgraded D Handle replacement. Light weight but solid, and everything moves freely. So you have free motion available in the wrists as needed. You can easily change your wrist position to get the right angle for pressing to hit the fibers you want. Because of their slim design and all plastic construction, they cleanly slide past you even when keeping your arm path tight to the body.

These are manufactured by a rather small company who only makes two handle options. The Sport are typically the recommended pair because they are more affordable and more or less do the same things.

And to take them up a notch, we can add various grips to the handles. For presses I often like a bigger handle as it spreads the weight across my hand more, and I’ve been really enjoying the cone grips for this purpose. This is the ONLY cable attachment I use for chest. All the fancy knurled handles and straps and different options out there simply can’t compete with the Trak Handle Sport.

Budget Cable Attachments For Chest

body solid nb59a aluminum stirrup handle

I’ve used a single Body Solid D-Handle which gets the job done. These are VERY light weight but solid, the multiple D-Rings give you a bunch of options to get the right amount of stretch, starting position, etc. for your workouts. Nothing too flashy, and the price point is perfect. These didn’t last long in my gym due to the Trak Handle Sport, but they might take second place (albeit a far distant second).

Best Cable Attachments For Shoulders

Trak Handle Sports… Again

For delts, we are going to have a couple options. First, is our Trak Handle Sport again. These work fantastically for front raises, lateral raises, and rear delt raises, as well as overhead press variations. These are my wife’s go-to for all her cable shoulder work.

TrakHandleSport GIF

For the same reasons these are great for chest work, they are great for shoulders. You can adjust your hands as needed, the slim profile means they don’t get in the way at all, and the free movement means you don’t have your wrists stuck in any position you don’t want them in.

1MR Adjustable Rope Cuffs

My personal favorite for shoulder work, specifically various shoulder raises, is a new one added to my arsenal recently, the 1MR Adjustable Rope Cuffs. I mentioned in the First 5 article that I like ankle cuffs for lateral raises and other shoulder movements, which is true. But this is just a little better in a few ways.

1MRAdjustableRopeCuffs

First, since they work like a lifting strap, it is easy to get them off if you are super setting and don’t want ankle cuffs around your wrist. Second, is that the extra material gives a unique pull for the movement that I find helps with the stretch portion of the lift. And third, which we’ll get into more in a bit, is that these can be used for not only shoulder work but other movements too that an ankle cuff can often times struggle with.

The idea around using a cuff or strap instead of the Trak Handles is to remove the wrist from the equation when doing these movements. The wrist is a very mobile joint, which means a lack of stability. Lack of stability means less weight and less reps, which means less gains. By attaching the strap above the wrist we perform these cable movements similar to how a lateral machine would work.

Then you can take it up an extra notch by adding in something to hold onto in your hands. While we removed the wrist from the equation, we can still gain some stability by means of radiation by squeezing the hands, engaging the forearms, and helping sending tension up into the upper arm and shoulder.

MutantMetalsNubsForShoulders

Much like how to handle the most weight in a Back Squat you need to have your upper back tensed and even your hands tight, this little trick might just get you an extra rep or two. My go-to here would be to grab some kind of single handle attachment, something like my Mutant Metals Nubs are great, you could use some fat grips, or even just some small piece of metal or whatever fits in your hands well that you can squeeze to death. With the 1MR Adjustable Rope Cuffs you can experiment with holding onto the extra cloth itself and see how that feels for you.

Prime Spreader Bar

If you like to perform Rear Delt work via movements like Face Pulls and similar variations, the Prime Spreader Bar is the best Face Pull dedicated cable attachment on the market.

PrimeSpreaderBar

Using similar handles as the MAG grips and their Prime ROT-8 handles, with the ability to move in 360 degrees on a pivot, you get the ability to perform a very similar movement to a strap, but with much better handles, which means better activation, more reps, etc.

I’ll add that the Spreader Bar doesn’t get much use outside of this though. Some people enjoy it for triceps work, I do not. Some people enjoy it for seated rows, I do not. So you likely need to go into this with the idea that you might get one exercise from this handle and that is IT.

LCA from Savage Strength

LCASavageStrength

I just saw this one recently, and am REALLY intrigued. Pretty sure I’ll pull the trigger here soon, but it is a pretty dope looking cable attachment specifically targetted to shoulder work. The LCA from Savage Strength might be the single most niche shoulder cable attachment I’ve seen.

Budget Cable Attachments For Shoulders

The 1MR Adjustable Rope Cuffs are my favorite for shoulder work, but you can once again simply use a basic D-Handle, or if you already own a pair of Ankle Cuffs or the Trak Handle Sport, could decide to use those and save the cash for other cable attachments.

BWTGBalls

For a unique option, you could grab two cannon ball grips, a length of chain and some carabiners, and do face pulls with that. Interesting change of pace for the hands, grip, etc. Similar concept to the Spreader Bar, much cheaper, and potentially more versatile.

Best Cable Attachments For Biceps

KAZ Handles

First up on my list for my favorite cable attachments for Biceps, are the KAZ Handles from Prime Fitness.

PXL 20230315 190643470.PORTRAIT
Code GGC to saves 5%

The KAZ Handles have a CONE shape to them, which means you get the benefit of a thicker handle, without the negatives of it potentially impacting your grip. The cone helps conform to the natural shape of your hand, meaning that it can work a little better, not harder. This lets us focus more effort on the muscles we want to hit, aka the Biceps. They are lightly knurled, and… the big winner here… is that they can be used for BOTH fully supinated and neutral variations in curls.

KAZNaturalHandShape

The KAZ Handles originally come with straps that run through them, alongside carabiners on both ends. I replaced the carabiners with some shackles, that I believe work better and reduce some of the weight and craziness to the handle itself. Others have gone the route of connecting with Belt Fed Strength to get a leather strap with additional shackle options.

KAZLip

One thing you’ll notice with the KAZ Handles, and the reason I REALLY enjoy them for the neutral work, is that this lip helps give you a little security and stability that your hand isn’t going to go anywhere. Much better than an open cone shape design.

Bells of Steel Fat Bar – Olympic Curl Bar Cable Attachment

I personally prefer an EZ Curl option as it doesn’t annoy my wrists and elbows as much. I also prefer a fatter grip, hence the selection of the Bells of Steel Fat Bar here.

BoSFatBar CurlBarCableAttachment

Keep in mind, some people do NOT like fat grip implements, my dude over at Home Gyms Hacks and Reviews has specifically said this, so your mileage may vary there. I find it makes my hands, wrists, and elbows less cranky, and potentially has some positive carryover to forearm size as well.

BoSFatCurlBar TraditionalEZCurl

This bar can actually be used as a traditional EZ Curl bar, which is a nice option in a home gym to only have to own one, not potentially both.

SupraCurl Bar – Troy VTX

This bar allows you to rotate your hands from neutral to supination from within the handle itself. The bar is chromed, with a black finish on the handles. It rotates in the center as well as the handles very smoothly with no restrictions.

Troy VTX Supra Curl Bar

The handles are lightly knurled, the entire thing is metal, and it just feels very natural to use. The cool thing here is that you can get creative with this attachment. You can let it do its thing, and simply curl in a very natural pattern, letting your hands move as it feels right as you go up and down. OR you can perform a Reverse Zottman curl, another A Tier exercise in Jeff Nippard’s list. This is where we perform a Neutral Curl UP, rotate our hands, and do a Supinated Curl DOWN.

SupraCurl ZottmanCurl GIF

The one big negative of this cable attachment, is that it can be hard to find. Over the years I’ve found it on Amazon, then not. Then on specialty retailers, then not. Sometimes they only have the curl bar option and not the cable attachment option. So you are going to need to do some google work here to find one.

ATLAS Bar

The ATLAS bar has a simple straight handle that you hold onto, paired with a second straight handle that has paddings on it. This keeps your wrists in a neutral fashion, meaning you take any torque off of them, that typically leads to tennis elbow pain.

ATLASBar

A big knock on this guy is that the pads that come with it are VERY subpar. I happened to have some roller pads lying around that I replaced them with. And the carabiner situation is also a little weak, I replaced with a nice swivel shackle.

I’ve found that this bar seems to let me handle MORE weight compared to the other bars in this category, likely because it is improving the stability in my wrists. If you want to get crazy here, you can also change the grip orientation by adding Fat Gripz, Cone Grips, or even the Ez bar style grips from N-Gage Grips. Since out of the box this is a fully straight bar attachment, it reduces the wrist and elbow issues, and it lets me handle more weight, it is a nice tool in the toolbox for biceps work.

I’ll note that this bar can also be used for triceps work, pullovers, and a few other movements so it isn’t a one trick pony.

Rolling Top Curl from Arm Assassin

The Arm Assassin Top Curl comes in a few form factors, but the one I bought integrates with their Napalm Nightmare system, which means I can change out the grips to a number of different styles, which is the first unique part of the puzzle for the Top Curl.

ArmAssassinTopCurl

When performing Neutral Curls, which target the brachilaias, we see the second unique part of this attachment… the chain strap. Because it rolls over the top of the attachment, it is actively pulling your wrist DOWN, which means you need to actively pull it up to finish the rep. This is targeting the Brachio Radialis on top of the forearm.

ArmAssassinTopCurl Strap

I do as many reps as I can here, then flip it over. Now the chain strap isn’t in play, and I finish the set with getting as many reps for the Brachiallias. If you simply wanted to hit the Brachialis, you could… but I mean, you can’t walk around with huge biceps and tiny forearms, right?

Hog Legs Boar Tusks from LPG Muscle

HogLegsBoarTusks LPGMuscle

LPG makes MOSTLY fat grip implements, all powdercoated, with a large focus on grip. What I like about the Boar Tusks is the ability to do a reverse curl variation with the “tusks” while having my hands up against the straight bar portion itself. This is a good addition to some brachialis training and also includes some direct forearm work as well. You can use this for straight bar curls, triceps pushdowns, and more, so this isn’t a one trick pony either.

Dual Ball Grip from FitBar Strong

FitBarStrongDualBallGrip

Their lineup is really focused more on the Ninja Warrior world, which is how I found them in the first place looking for stuff for my daughter. But the dual ball grip is a unique neutral handle option for curls. I don’t think it is the best, it definitely limits the weight you can use, but if you are a grip focused person trying to get some work in for the arms, this is a unique combo for you.

CUBB Cable Bar

CUBBBarCableAttachment

This bar has some of the same unique concepts as the SupraCurl, allowing you to supinate your hands, but the CUBB has the unique addition of the bands adding resistance directly to that supination. I’ve seen this bar be used for a lot of movements that I think are grossly over exaggerated in terms of their benefit, but this is one that MIGHT just check the right boxes.

BT Bar from Savage Strength

SavageStrengthBTBAR2

This is a play on the Atlas Bar, where we get some better execution of the rotation, knurled handles, and some options around Stainless Steel, Rotating Grips, you name it… The BT Bar has been picking up some steam in the underground home gym chats, and could be a contender against the Atlas.

American Barbell V-Bar

American Barbell Rotating V Bar Cable Attachments

Good angles, good knurling, solid, smooth rotation. Everything you’d want in a good attachment. The American Barbell V-Bar is simple and well executed, and one of the reasons it belongs on the Biceps AND Triceps list.

Best Budget Cable Attachments For Biceps

If you own a pair of basic D-Handles, or a curl bar of any kind, you can always use those. Make sure you are hitting something where your hands are fully neutral for the brachialis, and something where your hands are fully supinated for the biceps, and you are most of the way there.

Best Cable Attachments For Triceps

GymPin Ergo Handles (Pair)

GymPinErgoHandles Pair scaled

First up are my current go-to favorite cable attachments for triceps, and these are the Ergo Handles from GymPin (10% off w/ Code: GRAYMATTERLIFTING). These are great for a couple reasons.

First, is that the handles themselves fit very nicely in the hands due to the unique hand shape. Almost like someone molded a hand and built a cable attachment from it. Myself and my wife use these without any issues, though my daughter does struggle with them. So adults of most sizes should be good to go, but if you are a ginormous or very tiny human being, these might not work as well for you.

Second, is that the grips have a stopper at the end, which is fantastic for that extra stability and security when pushing your sets. Much better than an open-ended handle design.

Third, because these are an individual handle, we can use them for typical extensions, but also train overhead extensions, crossbody extensions, and a number of variations using either one hand at a time, both hands isolateraly, or connecting them together with a daisy chain, that will allow you to get a lot out of one handle. Using a daisy chain also gives us enough length to get our arms fully extended behind our torso so we can fully shorten the triceps.

A more traditional rope and other cable attachments do not have the amount of length we need to accomplish this. The first time you really hit that end range, you are going to feel it and realize you’ve been missing something for a while.

MAG Palm Press

MAGPalmPress

I think the MAG Palm Press is a better triceps handle than a back handle. You CAN use it for triceps extensions, but it isn’t competing with the GymPin Ergo Handles. For pushdowns though, we get a unique set-up with the flat and wide paddle, and the nubs that help guide and secure our hands.

The flat position on the wrists COULD lead to some pain for some individuals that are lacking wrist mobility, so keep that in mind. For me, I find this to be a very powerful handle to maximize the overload potential for pushdowns. Since I am actively trying to develop my triceps for size AND strength in the bench press, this is a movement I have been prioritizing lately.

TK Star Larry Scott Tricep Bar

TkStarLarryScottTricepsBar2 scaled

The Larry Scott Triceps Bar from TK Star is a PERFECT pushdown bar. The fat handle, knurling, angles, and locked in carabiner hook make for the best movement possible.

If you spend enough time digging into the depths of quality equipment, you’ll likely come across TK Star and their fondness for very specific angles, cuts, grooves, and finishes. Larry Scott certainly knew how to build some legendary arms, and this attachment has claims from many to be the single best triceps cable attachment on the planet. I own one and it is a regular favorite in my rotation.

TkStarMikeMentzer

TK also makes a Mike Mentzer attachment that is on my future purchase list that is worth checking out, ones that are on my future list. So it would be worth delving into his world. TK is a one man shop, so be prepared to work directly with him and wait your turn for your delivery. His stuff is expensive, and is often on a MASSIVE waitlist. He is a master craftsman working by himself to produce the best equipment out there, which takes time.

Troy VTX Butterfly

Troy VTX Butterfly

The Troy VTX Butterfly has rotating handles that allow your hands and wrists to move comfortably during the exercise. The reason this isn’t higher on the list is the lack of range of motion for typical triceps extensions, and the fact that it is a one trick pony. It was further up my list until I snagged the Ergo Handles and had that “OH WOW” moment of clarity. Truly a cool attachment, but not at the top tier I used to have it at.

American Barbell Rotating V-Bar

AbVBar

This one isn’t as fancy as some of the others, but belongs on this list for sure. The tried and true V-Bar from American Barbell made my Biceps list, and the First 5 Cable Attachments list for a good reason. It works!

One of my favorite complexes is to start with Pushdowns, move to Overhead Extensions, then to Reverse Grip Extensions as I drop weight each time. I call these Cerberus Extensions as I hit all three heads of the tricep in 3 back-to-back-to-back rounds.

Biceps Attachments For Triceps

A number of the attachments I listed in the biceps section, can be used effectively for triceps (consider this the B Team for Triceps).

HogLegsBoarTusks LPGMuscle
BoSFatBar CurlBarCableAttachment
ArmAssassinTopCurl

The Hog Legs Boar Tusks from LPG Muscle, with the different hand positions available, allow you to get pretty creative in how you use this. Pushdowns, extensions, overhead extensions, reverse grip extensions, you get it.

The Bells of Steel Curl Bar can be used for extension work as well, in fact Jeff Nippard has Overhead Extensions on a Cable Machine, using an EZ Curl style Bar, in his S Tier exercise list for Triceps.

And the KAZ Handles can be used in a similar fashion as the GymPin Ergo Handles. You can even use the Arm Assassin Top Curl from a high cable position and target the Triceps and underside of the forearm.

IPRIsoProStrap

And of course, you can always grab something like my IPR Fitness ISO Handle. Straps like these and from Spud Inc and others can be used for a number of Triceps Extension style exercises, pushdowns, you name it. I find that the handle isn’t as comfortable when the weight gets heavier compared to something like the Ergo Handle, but they are an option.

Best Cable Attachments For Forearms

Wrist Roller

Mutant Metals Wrist Roller

A Wrist Roller isn’t new to most, but attaching it to a cable stack might be. By far my favorite forearm builder. I reached out to my dude at Mutant Metals to see if he could make a stainless steel badass one like my Hatfield Handles. We did it! Almost 2 inch diameter handle, stainless, with his awesome knurling, and a strap ran down the middle. This is NASTY! If you want one, just contact him and tell him you want what Joe is having!

Twist Yo Wrist

Ironmind Twist Yo Wrist

Get real crazy with something like the Ironmind Twist Yo Wrist. I have one and use it to mix up my forearm training. It is unique and different, and fun. I do wish it was metal, instead of plastic. The knurling is just kind of “ok”. But this is a very unique option. I can’t think of another way to really train that same movement of your hands/wrists.

Anything From Arm Assassin

Arm Assassin is one of the best known secrets in the Arm Wrestling world. Think YOU have popeye forearms? Meet a dude who does arm wrestling as a job. You can snag a bunch of their stuff and hook it up to a cable machine and say bye bye to ever shaking someones hand again without crippling them.

Best Cable Attachments For Back

Maximum Advantage Grips (aka MAG Grips)

The MAG Grips are the kings of back development. I have been a MAG Grip fanboy for close to a decade and they are the first set of attachments on today’s list.

MAG Grips

Used in a TON of high end commercial and garage gyms, I’ve yet to see more than a couple of comments of people that weren’t instantly blown away using them. Supinated for lat development, pronated for upper back development, close grip or wide for dedicated pulldowns, medium grips for low rows, medium rows, seated rows, pulldowns, and t-bar work.

With a traditional lat bar you wrap your fingers around the bar and hold tight, like a pull up bar. You’ll find as the reps get more difficult, the bar tends to slide in your hands and end up being held by the tips of your fingers, which leads many people to needing straps as the weight gets heavier.

MAGGripsInUse

With the MAGs, the design takes your grip mostly out of the equation so you can focus on your back. Very quickly, most people will notice that they handle more weight, for more reps, for a larger range of motion, with a better overall feeling in their back when using MAGs vs a traditional bar.

Do NOT fall for the knock offs. Get the real thing. I won’t go into a TON of detail here, as I have a full Comprehensive Guide on the MAGs. This will cover the ins and outs, what to buy in a number of situations, and how to get the most out of them.

Prime RO-T8 Handles

Prime ROT-8 Handles
Code GGC saves 5%

The Prime RO-T8s are essentially a MAG Grip with the freedom to… you guessed it… rotate. Most of the time I prefer a more locked in feeling for my cable attachments. Hence why the MAGs are my go-to over and over again. BUT, I do really enjoy the ability to leverage a little more movement in some single arm pulldown variations.

For the RO-T8s, we have the same paddle design as the MAGs, so the beneficial grip, more weight, more reps, better contraction stuff is all here. But the ability to rotate your hands throughout the movement can be beneficial to address weaknesses from left to right, to execute pulldowns in a unique fashion, and overall mix things up compared to the MAGs.

For cable attachments for back, I almost NEVER use anything other than the MAGs and the Prime RO-T8s.

Best Cable Attachments For Legs

Ankle Cuffs

PXL 20230315 191634029.PORTRAIT edited

This can be used for a number of movements including hamstring curl variations, leg extension variations, as well as glute work, adductor work, and abduction work. You could technically get bye with just a pair of ankle cuffs and hit the majority of the leg muscles, though I don’t believe they are the BEST for all of those movements.

AnkleCuffAbductors GIF

Where they shine is with the basic glute kickback and hip abduction movements. Even as a powerlifting dude I have been known to mix in some hip abduction work into my program. I really like focusing on letting my working leg move behind my stationary leg, getting a good stretch in that hip, and then driving outwards. I typically aim for what feels like a 45 degree angle, as I feel it best in the Glute Minimus, which is a muscle that can really round out the glutes.

If your gym isn’t fully built out with items like a leg developer, these can be used to add some leg extension options to your gym. Not my favorite, not something I do because I have a leg developer with my Hyper Pro and Inspire FT2, but they work better than NO leg extension. I’ve tried a fancy ankle cuff with extra straps and d-rings, and didn’t like it. So we are going to keep it simple here. Grab a pair off Amazon or a retailer you trust.

IPR Glute Kickback PRO Straps

Save 20% on IPR Fitness Attachments w/ Code: GML

I mentioned that you COULD do hamstring work with the ankle cuffs, but if I have the option I’m grabbing a pair of the IPR Glute Kickback PRO Straps for any cable driven leg curl options.

The reason is that these straps hook into the heel, allowing you to drive with the foot instead of the calf. It is a much more natural feeling to the movement, and in my experience makes for more weight and more reps. The leading strap here also gives you a good line of sight for the cable so we can hammer the hamstrings. You can do a lying leg curl with these, but like leg extensions, this isn’t my go to. I’d rather use a leg developer for that.

IPRGluteKickbackPro StandingLegCurl GIF
IPRGluteKickbackPro SeatedLegCurl GIF

The only downside with the IPR Glute Kickback PRO Straps is that they come in multiple sizes. I have the Men’s size, and when my wife used them, and she is 5ft 6, they didn’t fit. This is unfortunate because it means for a household or gym with multiple athletes, you might need multiple straps. Otherwise, these are fantastic and a great upgrade over the basic ankle cuffs for hamstring exercises.

Squat Harness

SquatHarness2

Split squats are NASTY on a cable machine. I mean, they are nasty anyway you do them. But get ready for some pain. You could get by holding on to handles, but to get the real deal you should snag a Squat Harness from Ripped by Roseblatt. This thing is built like a tank, and can be used for heavy deadlifts and all kinds of variations, it was my go-to when using my kBox for squats, and it is my favorite for a cable machine option for rear foot elevated split squats.

I toss my BootySprout Pro into the FT2, put on the Squat Harness, and set the weight appropriately. This is going to take a few attempts to get the balance right, but once you do this will be an absolutely brutal variation.

As a powerlifter, we spend a lot of time doing bi-lateral stuff, so including uni-lateral work can help us avoid injury, and split squats not only build the quads like crazy, but are a great builder for the glutes, adductors, abductors, and more. Tossing these in after heavy squats is a nice way to blast the quads, get a solid stretch in the hips, and not have to load up a ton of weight.

The only knock I have on the Squat Harness, is that it is a little complicated. There are a lot of straps and buckles everywhere. They are releasing a new version that is supposed to have more of this locked in, so you might not have to worry there. But if you order one and get a little confused, you can DM the owner on Instagram and he walked through a quick Zoom call with me to get mine to work.

On top of split squats, you could use this for standing calf work too. If you are a lighter lifter you might be able to get away with some squats, maybe even Good Morning variations and some other stuff. But my primary use is the split squats. I never thought I’d find a way to make split squats worse and more effective, but I did it. The Squat Harness is a winner.

1MR ‘Titan’ Cuffs

1MRTitanCuffs

Alright, the last item on our list tackles an exercise and muscle group I’ve wanted to train directly for a long time but struggled to do so – the Adductors. The 1MR Titan Cuffs are like if ankle cuffs ate their protein and did their squats. They are specifically meant to wrap around the thigh and upper calf… and for me they serve one purpose… to replicate the Good Girl Bad Girl machine in the gym so I can train my Adductors directly.

TomPlatzAdductors edited

Adductors are the inner thigh muscle, responsible for bringing the leg back into the midline of the body. Beyond potentials for knee health and reducing adductor/groin strains, directly training these muscles can help fill out that inner thigh for a 3D look of the leg, a big win from a bodybuilding stance.

With these I’m able to wrap them around just under my knee, hook up to my functional trainer, sit back a bit and really get a good stretch in the adductors and solid squeeze through the range of motion. Really let that cable stretch you out but KEEP the tension on the adductors. For a secondary option, you can hike the adjustable cable column up a bit and do a single leg version as well to mix things up a bit.

1MRTitanCuff GIF Adductors

This is another one of those exercises where, if you haven’t been doing this, you are going to feel it tomorrow. You could use these for a number of other exercises as well, but keep in mind that they need to fit on larger parts of the body. The 1MR Titan Cuffs really were a needle in a haystack kind of find for me.

Best Cable Attachments For Abs

Abs should be pretty straight forward for cable work. There are a LOT of options, but again, I keep it simple here. I want to flex my abs in a full ROM as best as possible, get a good stretch, and not worry about the attachment getting in the way or falling out of my hands.

I’m using the IPR Fitness ISO Handle Pro. Even my wife has been using this comfortably, which is a win!

When I said my current favorite Ab Strap was the IPR Fitness one above, I got a number of comments telling me to check out the Spud Inc Long Ab Strap. I haven’t used it, but it might end up on a purchase at some point later this year. Regardless, worth a look based on feedback from others. Check it out here.

PureTorque Ab Trainer

I had so many people mention this to me, that I had to buy it. This is a absolute MUST if you are an athlete of any kind, as rotational power is crucial in pretty much every single sport.

The PureTorque Ab Trainer, abs probably being a terrible choice for the name here, is a rotational tool to build your ability to rotate with control and power. As lifters we spend the majority of our time learning ANTI-rotation, which is definitely important. You don’t want to be a spaghetti noodle under a 500lb squat. But being able to rotate and develop those muscles purposefully can have huge benefits in general life, rehab, prehab, and every single sport I can think of.

REP Fitness Sports Handle

REP SportsHandle

One more piece for the “core” workout junkies, is a piece to train ANTI-rotation. You can get some really good work here from the basics like planks, bird dogs, and even static push-up holds. But for those looking to add some spice and some resistance to these movements, something like the REP Fitness Sports Handle is perfect. We currently have one that came with our Inspire FT2 and use it for this exact purpose. If we ever sell the FT2, I’m grabbing this one from REP.

Best Cable Attachments For Neck

I did some solid research into neck harnesses and training in general. If you plan to really get into it, there seems to be nothing better than the Iron Neck.

Tsunami Bar Lat Cable Attachments

Cable attachments are awesome. But even with my recommendations above, one size doesn’t fit all. So I want to include a few options you can dig into for some more cable attachment goodness.

DARKO makes his Longy Bar which can help you use the RO-T8s, KAZ Handles, and other single arm pieces for both arms at once with a single cable set-up.

Black Iron Strength makes some of the most exquisitely manufactured pieces on the planet. Honestly the only reason I don’t own anything from them, is because they almost exclusively make items that are a little more “standard”. I have no want/need for regular stirrup handles, another low row handle, or lat bar. If I was, I’d be looking here.

Tsunami Bar attachments are wild. I own the Level 3 Lat Bar, which I snagged used, and it is pretty cool. Not cool enough for me to necessarily recommend them above anything else, but cool enough to be mentioned. The hard part with these is that there are a TON of options. I mean, there are 3 Lat Bars!

Raw Motive Works makes some REALLY cool looking stuff. Their machines are rad, and their cable attachments are very unique. The only thing I personally don’t like, is that a lot of their attachments are sold as a “do a lot of things” kind of attachment. Definitely worth a look, as I don’t see any of this stuff anywhere else.

Mike Bartos Power Center is the top of the line strongman manufacturer on the planet. And he makes a few interesting Cable Attachments for those into the grip world. Not something I will likely every own, but very cool and unique.

Mutant Metals makes the ARC as well as a number of other cable attachment friendly handles.

Black Widow Training Gear makes a long line of unique attachments as well, so does Spud Inc, EliteFTS, and many others. You can spend a LONG time going down a crazy rabbit hole. I’ve done this. I tried to save you the time with my notes above, but feel free to dig in.

The BEST Storage For Cable Attachments

This one is easy. Wall Control is the best storage option for a home gym for the vast majority of items, and it is absolutely the BEST option for cable attachment storage. I’ve been using Wall Control in my gym for over 5 years. It is strong, looks great, and is endlessly adjustable. So every time you buy a new cable attachment you can reorganize your set-up. Lucky for you, I have a Comprehensive Guide on Wall Control that includes my reviews, my friends reviews, installation notes, my recommendations on what to buy, and more.

Other Cable Machine Accessories

Not quite cable attachments, but kind of. There are a few items I reach for regularly when using my cable machine.

GymPin

GymPin

My Inspire FT2 has plate stacks, which means it has a limited amount of weight that can be loaded. Occasionally I need MORE weight than the plates allow. This is where my GymPin comes in handy. Simply slide it into the stack, and you can toss on a couple more plates. For my FT2 I’ve loaded an additional 2x45s PER SIDE for things like leg extensions. VERY helpful. Performance Pins

A fun little add-on to help you do Drop Sets. These are American Made and again work with a plate stack cable machine. They aren’t perfect, but they are cool and relatively cheap. Grab a pair of Performance Pins. (Use code GGC to save 10%)

Cable Connectors

With something like a functional trainer, you might run into a situation where you want to connect the two cables together. This allows you to use BOTH stacks together, for one exercise. Or in the case of my FT2, allows me to use the dual cable low and high pulleys with my favorite cable attachments.

GorillaStrengthCableConnecter2

I bought a pair of connectors from my guy David Dennis over at Gorilla Strength. If you want these, just poke him and tell him you want what Gray Matter Lifting has.

You can snag something like a Darko Shorty Bar or GymPin Holey Bar and connect them as well. OR my guy Kyle at Kaizen DIY created this piece.

Seat Buckle

Ok, stick with me here for a second. How many home gym cable machines are lacking in the stability market? As in, they often are missing pads to keep you down, or backrests, or all of the above to help you maximize your strength potential? A LOT OF THEM! This is where the GymPin Seat Buckle comes into play. Yes, it is essentially a seat belt. Yes, you could get a seat belt and do the same thing. If you have access, 100% do that. If not, this has been a BIG improvement to my space in the past several months. Highly recommend.

Plate Snacks

Plate Snacks has a TON of ways to customize your home gym. But the coolest might just be the custom Weight Stack Decals. You can work directly with them to create a custom solution for a NUMBER of Weight Stack machine, as well as simply order a custom solution.

The BEST Carabiners For Your Cable Attachments

I’m looking to explore this topic even further soon. But for right now, there are a couple of options I’ve used and recommend.

Black Diamond Oval Keylock Carabiner

Black Diamond Carabiner

These are the nicest carabiners I have used. They open easy (not easy enough to not do the job). They are meant for climbing, so they are ready for heavy loads and banging around. Since they are made to go outdoors, they are ready for the harsh environments of the garage. And they don’t have the teeth on the carabiners that get caught on cables/fabric. These are a joy to use. Check them out here.

Spinning Carabiner

Spinning Carabiner

Sometimes you want a little more freedom in your carabiner. I use these a lot when doing landmine work, but they help with some cable attachment set-ups as well. I’d probably buy either some of these, or a set of these to get this done (the ones I bought aren’t for sale anymore).

Cable Attachment Shackles

Shackles

Depending on your cable attachments and storage solution, you might need to explore some shackles. These are a common solution, and these which I own, swivel.

Small Carabiner

There is a carabiner I’m hunting down that comes with the Beyond Power Voltra I. If I find it, I’ll add the details here.

Wrap-Up

So this is my personal opinions on cable attachments I’ve used, read about, seen in action, you name it. This is heavily influenced of course by my own programming needs, my 6ft 250lb frame, including my wife and daughter in the mix, and my garage gym in general.

So make sure to take your own personal needs, experiences, gym, programming, and body into consideration.

I don’t consider this a comprehensive list of EVERY good attachment out there, but more the best attachments for the job. I’d love to own about 7000 more cable attachments, but I only have so much money, so much time, and so much storage space. So I stick to what I believe works effectively for me in my space.

Did I miss anything? I love learning about new attachments. Feel free to drop me a line on anything.

Oh, and I reserve the right to change my opinion!
