REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine Review – Almost Perfect

I’ve owned multiple different landmines during my home gym journey, not including the basic tennis ball solutions. They all had their purpose at the time, and I have no regrets owning any of them. But at this point in my journey, my gym has reached a stage where I truly need to find that final boss version of a landmine. The one that will be with me through the remainder of my time in my gym, pushing stupidly heavy row variations, core work, and more. And this is what the REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine attempts to be.

Key Notes

The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine is the gold standard for top tier landmines. I could see some areas for minor improvement, but it is damn near perfect.

REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine Overview

REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine - The GOLD Standard

REP has been working to partner with a number of creators in the home gym community to bring their products to life. Or maybe I should say, to partner to create the best of both worlds. REP has a fantastic history in streamlining production, has a monster audience, and works with a ton of different athletes and people across platforms. Kleva, makes fantastic equipment, but struggled as a small shop to keep up with demand, managing marketing, social media, customer emails, and all the nuances of running a business.

So the idea here is that REP handles the “business” and Kleva handles the “creating cool stuff”. I love it! We first saw the REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine at HomeGymCon. Because of the layout, we didn’t get a chance to test run it, but I snagged a pic to confirm its existence in the world. I knew when this was on the way, that this was going to be my next upgrade for my rack.

You can pick either a Free Standing or Rack Mounted Option. For MOST people, I would lean

Shipping & Assembly

The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine ships in a single box, with REP’s featured black molded foam inserts. This is the same way the other more recent items I’ve received from them have been delivered, and I now judge every other product against. It is clean, simple, and effective.

Inside the box is your basic instruction kit, sticker, social media card, and then the 3 key pieces for the REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine itself. Your box might look a little different if you get the free standing model, but probably not by much.

REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine Features

Landmines are a dime a dozen. And if you are reading this, you probably know the basics of how this works. A landmine sets up in a couple of different ways, you insert your barbell, load the other side, and get to work. Landmine’s can be used for rows, squats, lunges, presses, thrusts, deadlift variations, and more. You can hook up your favorite cable attachment and get some more use as well. You’ve got rotational work, explosive movements, bodybuilding stuff, booty blasting abilities, the list goes on.

Just like many items that do a lot, this is a really generalized movement option. You are creating a pivot point, low to the ground, for a barbell to be loaded on the other side. This creates a pseudo machine style movement by having one side stabilized, but gives some freedom in movement still up and down, left and right.

The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine stands out for a number of reasons, which all tie back to Kleva’s design principles. They make items that are light, effective, and easy to use. It is built out of steel, anodized aluminum, and polycarbonate, which means that it will be easy to move around but ready for heavy workouts. It is rated to handle 450lbs, which even for myself, is almost guaranteed to be enough.

The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine has a tool free installation process on your rack. Previous landmine’s I owned required the use of wrenches to secure bolts. This meant you needed the tools on hand, but it also meant any time you needed to remove or move the landmine, you had to get to work. This is a simple solution that improves the in-use set-up and potential storage of the landmine.

Landmines have historically struggled with quality range of motion. Not a big deal for rows, but a strong annoyance for more dynamic movements. The last thing you want is the bar to get hung up while rotating it overhead. The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine claims to have 360 degrees of rotation with no issues in any direction.

Build into the design for the rack mounted version, is storage. It has a magnetic pin used to keep the landmine vertical and out of the way. Meaning you won’t trip on it, kick it, or otherwise damage yourself or your equipment. Speaking of not destroying your equipment, the landmine sleeve is lined with a protective liner to keep your barbell in perfect condition.

REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine Performance

There is no mistaking it, this is the best landmine on the market. From the aesthetics, to the function and performance, this thing is top tier. I tossed over 200lbs at it for rows, did a bunch of pressing variations, core work, explosive stuff, and more. I never had any issues. There was never a moment where it caught, felt like it was going to move on me, or otherwise do exactly what it was supposed to do.

From a general in-use performance stance, this is truly the end game of landmines.

I do think that there might be some room for improvement though when we dig into a few of the other areas.

Storage & Assembly

REPKlevaBuiltADROIT Install

The ADROIT attaches to your rack by means of a threaded pin that goes through your upright, and has a plastic twist nut on the other end to tension it down. If this threaded bolt was simply a typical MAG Pin with the magnetic connection on the right side (of the picture) you’d be able to toss it into the rack and get to work, then remove it in a snap. Since landmines tend to put pressure BACKWARDS, you’d be pressing the mag pin into the rack, meaning there should be no need for a locking mechanism on the other side, and no fear of it sliding out of place in use.

This would also address another problem we have with the ADROIT. As a rack attached landmine, you need to choose a location where this is going to get full function IN USE, meaning nothing in the way, low to the ground, and easy set-up. But you also need it to be somewhere that it isn’t in the way of using your rack. Because we have a number of attachments for our rack, like the Pegasus, the ADROIT is often in the way.

Which means we need to take it off the rack. Not only is the ADROIT itself in the way, but the magnetic storage pin used to keep it tight to the rack is in the way. So you have to disconnect two different pieces, move them, then connect them again for the next use.

If the ADROIT disconnected with a MAG Pin, you could keep the magnetic storage pin in a different location on your rack, say on the upper backside. This would be completely out of the way, yet easy to grab when its time to work. Because it can store in essentially any orientation on your rack that you want, vertically or horizontally, you’d have a lot of options. We haven’t had any issues with the magnetic storage pin failing to hold the ADROIT tight, even with 600+lb deadlifts crashing right next to it and 500+lb squats re-racking on the same upright.

Long Term Materials / Build Quality

REPKlevaBuiltADROIT Dings

We’ve used the REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine for the past six months, with multiple sets each week. The VAST majority if it looks good as new. But we do have a few small chips on the top side. This isn’t horrendous, and I’m personally not getting worked up over it. But I like to share these things. When you spend $150 on a landmine compared to $30 for an Amazon alternative, you likely want it to be the best, forever. And when things start to dent and ding, it can be a little frustrating.

They go out of their way to put a protective sleeve on the inside for the barbell. But it is VERY common to hit the lip with your bar. I think that sleeve needs to come out and wrap around the top lip to make sure we have metal on plastic, not metal on metal contact at all points.

Should You Buy The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine?

REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine Review

This is going to come down to your preferences on equipment. If you want the best and budget is a secondary concern, then this is definitely it. The other options on the market that I have used and seen, all have SOME of the same features of the REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine, but nothing has all of the features. It stands at the top by itself as the premium option. Rogue and others offer some VERY nice alternatives, and if you need American Made, then go that route. But I think the premium features here are just better done than what anyone else offers.

If you are looking for a more middle ground for budget and features, then you can find a lot of alternatives. One of the best comes in at under $30, which is 1/5th of the price of the ADROIT. It doesn’t have the same smooth operation and performance, but you’ll get the job done.

Other Options On The Market

I’ve handled a lot of landmines over the years, and put all of my experience, research, and details into one article for you to digest it all. So if you aren’t positive which landmine to get, this will help you out. We’ll cover how landmines work, what exercises to try out, attachment options for landmines, and I even give you a completely free alternative to buying a landmine. Then we break it down by budget and space to figure out what the best option is for YOUR home gym.

Wrap Up

The REP x Kleva Built Adroit Landmine is going to be my landmine of choice for the foreseeable future. While I think they could have refined a couple of items a little further, I’m not so worked up about those that I’m ditching it entirely. I’ll probably eventually find a better solution for the storage/assembly, and then we’ll be one step closer to perfection. In the meantime, this is the best landmine that money can buy.
