Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer Review 2026
Last updated on January 5th, 2026 at 07:23 pm
Did you buy an adjustable bench that doesn’t take attachments? Do you love the bench, but wish you could do some leg extensions and leg curls? Well I might have a solution for you. The Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer is a one size fits all solution for any adjustable bench. Meaning that you don’t need to sell your current bench that you love, to get access to those sweet sweet leg gains.
I’ve been using this as part of my Adjustable Bench Showdown project for the last couple months, and I’m ready to share my thoughts. Let’s dig in.

Transparency Note
The Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer was sent to me for free for sake of review and testing in my Adjustable Bench Showdown project. I do not have an affiliate link or any additional relationships with the team.
Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer Overview

The Gentleman Fitness Club Leg Developer is a universal leg extension and leg curl bench attachment for any bench on the market. This means that you don’t have to own the Ironmaster Super Bench Pro V2 or REP Nighthawk to get access to leg curls and leg extensions.
Many home gym owners have purchased rock solid adjustable benches that they love, but they don’t have an attachment port. That was the problem, and this is the solution.
I’ve Seen This Before

You may have seen this named as the Gear For Fit FREESTANDING leg extension leg curl attachment. It goes by a few other names as well, and they are all the same product. Gentlemen Fitness Club is the original designer of a long list of home gym items designed for small spaces. They partnered with a factory, who was given the rights to white label the products and sell to other companies.
So the other companies are using the design, just slapping their name on it, and selling it. Nothing wrong there, everything was above board and good to go. Just a little context before we dig deeper.
Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer Shipping & Assembly
The team isn’t fully set up for US operations yet, so this isn’t something I feel like I can fully comment on. The products were packaged well, but instructions weren’t very clear. They weren’t even in English. And shipping required me to pay an import fee. Assembly was FAIRLY straight forward, though I do believe I was missing a few finishing pieces for the leg developer.
Again, I’d wait until they officially have operations in the US running to make any kind of final verdict here.

Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer Features

The Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer is a fairly creative concept. It uses a base to slide under your bench, in an attempt to hold down the leg developer in use. Basically, you plus the bench will be enough to keep physics from doing its thing.
From there we have a leg developer that has a number of adjustments for different sized athletes. Something we don’t see in a lot of leg developers and I think is a requirement for most gyms with multiple sized athletes.
The Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer has a fairly aggressive angle to the weight horn, which is an attempt to kick in the resistance for leg extensions right out the gate, so you don’t miss that stretch.
The weight horn is chromed, alongside a number of the pieces throughout which should make for less wear and tear over time. Some finishing aesthetic choices are fairly cool, including the GFC cut out of the end of the weight horn, and logos throughout.
They also included wheels on the base, and a handle, to make it easier to move around. When I compare the specs and general concepts of this leg developer compared to the others I’ve used recently, the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer has a lot more positives for it than the others.
Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer Performance
On paper and at first glance, the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer is great. Unfortunately it starts to fall apart from there.
Mobility and Storage

They included wheels which is nice, since this is a fairly heavy leg developer especially with the base. This works surprisingly well. And after use, I would say that this is probably vastly superior to having to carry it around back and forth from storage.
If you have any bumps or jumps in your flooring, this might look a LITTLE different though. There are no magnets keep the pivot point together, so it can unfold and leave you in a bit of a pickle.
Because of the base, the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer does store easily. You don’t have to worry about it tipping over, falling to one side, you name it. But because of the size, like some of the other newer options on the market, you’ll need some dedicated floor space for this piece. So keep that in mind.
The only other note here, is that the end caps on the base can fall off in transit. This is a common fault of plastic end caps compared to fully welded ones.
Leg Extensions

I was pretty excited to combine this with a couple of the benches I had that didn’t have a leg developer. Sliding it under the benches was my first issue. Depending on how the wheels sit, the width of your bench, and any protection under the feet, this is going to make set up difficult.
When I paired the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer with my REP Nighthawk, you can see how unstable it was. This back and forth movement ended up scratching the underside of my bench. Not cool!
Once I got it set up and loaded, it worked ok. At first. I loaded up the Ironmaster Leg Developer with 300lbs and was able to make it work, well past the 225lb weight limit. Once I got past 3 plates on the Gentleman Fitness Club Leg Developer, we ran into issues (as you can see above). The problem is that the bench isn’t connected to the leg developer. So when the weight starts to get heavier, physics simply lifts the bench up in the air.
So the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer works, if you only load up 3x45s or less. But anything more than that and this becomes a complete waste for leg extensions.

Another issue is with the bolt that the leg developer pivots on. It sticks out fairly far, enough that it rubbed on my leg. Again, might not be an issue for smaller athletes, but definitely a negative for my experience.
You might be able to work around this if you choose to pair it with a plyo box, or maybe a flat bench. Since those wouldn’t be able to fold up underneath you.
What about cables?

My favorite leg developers use cable machines instead of being plate loaded. It tends to improve their strength curves, makes loading a bit easier, and I get to play with my VOLTRAs.
Unfortunately, we are back to the same issue. Because the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer isn’t actually attached to the bench, it is going to run into issues when trying to use a cable for resistance. If you connect your cable machine to the Gentleman Fitness Club Leg Developer, it is going to be pulling it out from underneath you. One small hiccup and that thing is flying right out from underneath the bench, and taking your legs with it.
Leg Curls

Leg curls suffer a different fate. Luckily we won’t be facing the same issues with weighs, because MOST of us aren’t crushing leg curls with the same weight we do leg extensions. But it doesn’t seem to matter.
The pivot point on the Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer seems to run out on Leg Curls before we reach full range of motion at the top. Because they chose such an extreme angle for the weight horn, you also REALLY need to use a collar to hold the plates on. The first set I did had a plate falling on me as I crashed into the end range of the machine abruptly.
This is a hard fail.
Should You Buy The Gentleman Fitness Universal Leg Developer?

If you don’t use heavy weights, leg extensions might work for you. And if you don’t use full range of motion, leg curls might work for you. They definitely did a lot of work around some of the details and adjustments. But I can’t recommend the Gentleman Fitness Club Leg Developer.
Other Options On The Market
I’ve put together a full article around the BEST Leg Developers for a Home Gym. I cover all of the ones I’ve used, other options on the market, and leg developers that are coming our way soon.
Wrap Up
I love leg developers, I’ve had one in my gym for over a decade. And I’ve never had problems like this. I’ve used 7+ benches and several other machines that all used a leg developer. Unfortunately, this was not a successful experiment on my end.
