Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun Review – 2024
Last updated on December 19th, 2024 at 02:37 pm
Massage guns are one of the most overrated items on the market. Weird way to start a review on a massage gun, right? People tend to think that a quick 15 minutes of massage gun magic will fix every ache and pain they have. WRONG! The good news is, I also think that a massage gun is one of the easiest ways to add in some much needed soft tissue work for the average strength athlete. Let’s look at the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun.
Key Notes
The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun is a very solid choice, with clean aesthetics, solid attachments, and a fairly quiet working motor.
It is a good all around massage, even for my bigger frame.

I actually got this unit sent to me for free. Thanks Bob and Brad! I have used my Hypervolt massage gun RELIGIOUSLY for years, and it has started to fall apart. So I was excited to get one in new condition. I hope the following demonstrates an honest review, despite me not paying for it. I received the unit in early March of 2023.
Bob & Brad also sent me their C2 Massage Gun at the same time for a side by side, so check out that review too. I include additional details and comparisons in that review, so you DEFINITELY need to read them both.
Overview of the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun
The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun has 5 speeds, comes with 5 different heads, and has a built in battery in the handle. While the C2 Massage Gun was meant to be LIGHTWEIGHT and PORTABLE, weighing only 1.5lbs, the X6 is just 1.9lbs clocking in at an extra inch tall and wide!
So the C2 is definitely smaller, but the X6 isn’t exactly going to take up a ton of room. I’d take the C2 for travel as each inch counts when you are trying to cram it all in (that’s what she said). The X6 is still TSA approved, like the C2.
The unit has a brushless motor. I’ve spent more money on power tools in 2023 than gym equipment. In my research I learned that brushless is often better. It means it stays quieter, produces less heat, and should last longer with better performance.
The max speed is 3200rpm, and it has a 10 minute auto-off built in feature. I liked that feature on the C2 as it is meant to be a portable massage gun. For the X6 it actually is a little annoying. More than once I have had it shut off on me mid session.
Now, it is a quick few button presses and we are back in business, but I haven’t found a situation where my massage gun will turn on by itself on my bedside table and I need it to turn off after 10 minutes automatically. Bob and Brad claim this is to avoid overheating. But we know that if it auto shuts off, we are just gonna turn it back on.
Charging
I loved that the C2 was charged via USB-C. Unfortunately, the X6 uses a dedicated wall charger. Looking at the specs of the two units, they both have the same battery (on paper). Their new BIG brother D6 PRO Massage Gun is USB Type C charging. So my best guess is that the X6 is an older model. This isn’t a deal breaker, but when I got the C2 I was STOKED about that. Then I received the X6 a few days later and was immediately let down.
Initial Thoughts Of The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun
I mentioned in the intro that I think massage guns are an easy way to get some soft tissue work in for strength athletes. The main reason is because MOST of us have some down time. We relax, watch some TV, otherwise just chill before bed. This is a fantastic time to sneak in your massage gun and give those muscles a little bit of relief. To achieve that, assuming you aren’t watching your TV on full volume, you need a quiet massage gun.
In the C2 review, I noted how quite the unit was. The website claims it runs at 60dB… while the X6 claims to run at 55dB. This seems like a mistype, because the X6 is definitely bigger and louder. Not by a ton, but noticeably louder. Still quieter than my old Hyperice Hypervolt… but louder than the C2.
I used an online loudness meter to compare the three units I have on their lowest and highest settings. The C2 ranged from 65dB to 71 dB. The X6 ranged from 70dB to 77dB. The Hyperice HyperVolt ranged from 76dB to 86dB.
Quick Note: that the Hypervolt only has 3 settings, where the Bob and Brad guns have 5. The MAJORITY of the extra noise from the Hypervolt, comes from vibrations in the massage gun itself, opposed to the motor being louder. Still, noise is noise!
For reference, according to Decibel Pro, “60 decibels is as loud as a normal conversation between two people sitting at a distance of about one meter (3 ÂĽ feet)“.
I went ahead and filmed all three models in this quick YouTube Short so you could hear them.
Battery
I received it at the beginning of March, and with daily use, the first charge was on 4/10. So let’s be conservative and say if you plan to do a daily massage routine, you probably have about 1 month of battery life waiting for you. This was the same on the C2, which makes sense, because I believe other than the charging option, these are essentially the same batteries.
Just like with the C2, the battery is integrated into the body of the massage gun. So we don’t have extra moving pieces like I have with my Hyperice HyperVolt.
The Case
The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun comes with a nice carrying case that holds all the goodies, including the 5 massage head attachments, the gun itself, two replacement o-rings for the attachments, the charging piece (not shown as it is tied behind my desk) and the instruction manual.
The case for the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun is a little larger than the C2 case in every fashion. Now, it isn’t so much that it isn’t portable, but it is enough that the C2 is BY FAR the choice for travel purposes. Could you fit the X6 in a travel bag, gym bag, etc? Definitely! But if you are fighting for space, the C2 packs a punch and saves that extra bit.
I mentioned in the C2 review that the case is awesome. It even held all of the pieces in place upside down! That is not the same for the X6. For whatever reason, the case is a little less FIRM. The gun itself does not stay put. Even a slight jiggle loosens most of the attachments with a couple falling out just by opening the case. The X6 has the same bungee style net as the C2 case, which I didn’t love. The net is used to keep the pamphlet and extras in place. This should be a snap ring, zipper, Velcro, something that actually KEEPS them in place.
The Attachments
The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun comes with 5 different attachments. Four of them are a hard plastic base with varying tips to achieve a different massage for different areas of the body. The fifth is a metal stopper piece. After doing a little research, you find out that the reason for the metal is that you can apply heat, cold, or even essential oils or other treatments that wouldn’t be doable with plastic.
In my experience with my Hyperice Hypervolt, the Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun, and the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun… I pick one attachment and use it for everything. You might like a different attachment than me. All good, I still love you.
Over the last several months I have gravitated to using the metal plunger piece. I have tried using it with cold and hot applications, but it doesn’t work very well. You need to get your water really hot and place the piece in there, retrieve it without burning yourself, screw it into the massage gun, and then get to work.
It needs to retain heat long enough that it actually does something. Apply the same logic for cold, and I think you can see that this isn’t very practical. In a similar fashion, if I was going to apply some essential oils or maybe bioforce to a sore area, I’d just do that manually. I’m not sure blasting it into my leg is going to do anything beneficial.
So I like the metal attachment because it is nice and firm, but the other “benefits” are marketing mumbo jumbo in my experience.
Comparison
I compared the attachments between the three massage guns. The C2 and X6 are IDENTICAL, expect for the fact that the C2 pieces are just a tiny bit smaller. The Hyperice Hypervolt attachments have a FEW small modifications from the X6, but even looking at these pictures I’m not positive which is which. They all work on all three guns by the way.
Performance of The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun
The biggest thing for me, is that I am 6ft 250+lbs. After nearly two decades of foam rolling, lacrosse balling, and other various forms of muscle relief, I mostly have hard tissue, not soft tissue. So a massage gun can mostly be as brutal as it wants to be, and I am good.
As I noted in the C2 review, it was a little light for my tastes for an every day massage gun. Great for travel, but otherwise it was missing a little gusto I was used to with the Hypervolt. The X6 luckily picked up the slack. At first, if you are jumping from an older massage gun to a newer one, you might have a hard time. There is something about the fact that the Hypervolt is a little more violent that makes you THINK you are getting more out of it. This isn’t reality, just one of those misconceptions that massage has to hurt to work.
Now the X6 is actually, even on the lowest setting, too much for my wife to use. She HATES foam rolling, and can tolerate a light massage from me, but otherwise has not been desensitized like myself. So the X6 isn’t a good choice for her. The C2 is solid!
The end result here is that I use the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun every night, as it has some more power behind it. The C2 is my wife’s go-to massage gun as it has MORE than enough power for her. In fact she often uses it on a low setting.
Which Bob and Brad Massage Gun Should I Buy?
I think the hardest part with the Bob and Brad lineup all together, is that they offer a staggering SIX massage gun options. I would assume that most people fall into either my wife or my personal situation… i.e. – wanting a normal person massage gun, or wanting all the power you can toss at it. I could see potentially three, giving people a middle ground. But having 6 options is confusing.
And the descriptions don’t help, as they all talk about being the “most powerful” and “portable” options, with brush less motors, multiple attachments, and more. And worse? The prices are all pretty close… with three of them being within $60 of each other. Considering my HyperIce Hypervolt lasted a good 3.5 years of constant use, I would like to pick the RIGHT massage gun, and I think they make that difficult here. I would personally like to see them have a portable option, a “normal” option, and an all-gas-no-breaks option. I think this would make it easier for most people to decipher.
Wrap Up
So the Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun is a GOOD massage gun and definitely handles replacing my Hyperice Hypervolt. It does what I need it to do, has a long battery life, and looks good doing it. The question I now have is, is the D6 Pro even better? I’ll chat with Bob and Brad and see what they think about sending that my way.
In the meantime, if you are looking for a solid choice in massage guns that runs at a pretty solid price, this is the one.
