Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun Review
Last updated on April 5th, 2024 at 09:20 am
I love me some massage guns. I owned my Hypervolt for many of years before it fell apart. Right on time, Bob and Brad reached out and sent me their C2 and X6 Pro massage guns. I’ve been using the X6 Pro NIGHTLY since the early part of 2023.
When I published those reviews, many people asked me about the bigger brother – the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun. This is the big boy toy for personal massages… Or something much less sexual than that.
I honestly use massage guns every single night, and this one was in the back of my brain since it was mentioned to me. After a few months of use, I’m here to give you the details. The question is, are the added features and power of the The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun worth the price?
Key Notes
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is certainly the bigger and stronger model in their lineup. If you NEED more power, this is it. But it could use a few tweaks.

Transparency Note
Bob and Brad have sent me the C2, X6 Pro, and the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun free of charge, in exchange for a review. If you read the other two reviews hopefully you’ll see that I managed to paint a realistic overview of both products – good and bad.
When I receive things for free, my goal is to do the same transparent, honest, and detailed work as if I had paid out of pocket. The links in this article are largely affiliate links, meaning I get a small kick back for sending you in their direction. It helps me continue to do my thing, so I appreciate your support. Ultimately, if you use my link/code or buy on my notes, I want you to be well informed and happy about your purchase.
Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun Specs
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun comes with some unique features. First up, it claims to be stronger and quieter than other models. Next is the fact that the head itself rotates, giving you more options to reach those hard to get to places on your back. This unit charges via USB-C, which I’m happy about. It claims to have DOUBLE the industry standard battery life, a high temperature resistance, and comes with 7 different attachments.
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun can adjust from 1500 to 2500 RPMs, and has multiple MODES, allowing it to run continuous, or do a ramping or decelerating pattern, or a combination of the two.
The stall force is also measured alongside the RPMs on the OLED screen. Pretty unique feature.

Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun Performance
Keep in mind, I’d been using the X6 Pro massage gun since July of 2023 before this arrived in early January of 2024. So that is going to be my primary comparison throughout.
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the X6 Pro. I would use the X6 while my wife read before bed. Loud enough that you knew I was using it, but pretty easy to have a normal conversation over it in use. The D6 on the other hand requires you to talk over it.
Now, this still isn’t as loud as the old JigSaw DIY massage guns, but we are probably back to the level of my old Hypervolt unit. Not so loud that anyone is running and screaming, you aren’t waking your kids from across the house, but you also aren’t discretely using the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun in any situation.
The good news is, that loudness does come with a fairly significant power upgrade. What gets confusing here, is that the X6 claims to have a maximum speed of 3200rpms, where the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun has a max speed of 2500rpms. So clearly the rpm number isn’t the deciding factor for how strong or powerful the massage is across the massage gun offerings.
The pounds of force is probably the better one here. The X6 has 55lbs of force, where the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is claiming 85lbs of stall force. I can’t exactly do any valid test to validate these numbers, but I’ll reiterate that the D6 is considerably more powerful. So much so, that on the few nights where I ran out of battery and had to use my X6 to finish off my routine, I felt as though it wasn’t doing much. Speaking of the battery.
Battery
I have a mixed bag here. The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is USB-C charging, which I’m VERY happy about. At this point in my life, anything that isn’t USB-C just feels like an annoyance. I hate having to keep extra cables and chargers around. So this is a definite upgrade over the C2 I was using regularly.
BUT… the battery doesn’t last anywhere near as long. The C2 was lasting me a full month on a single charge. The D6? I’m getting a single week. Now its not like charging a massage gun is a huge pain in the ass. You grab it, plug it in, let it sit over night, and we are good to go. But it is definitely something to make note of. I’m now considering setting up the charging brick in my bedroom (where I use the massage gun) for the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun.
Keep in mind here, that I do a pretty thorough massage routine. I hit my entire body, every night, which takes close to 10 minutes. I know this because I have ran into the 10 minute auto shut off feature a few times. So if your massage routine is considerably briefer, you might get much more out of the battery.
The Case
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun comes in a very similar case to the C2 and X6 massage guns. It is slightly larger, as the massage gun itself is slightly larger, but otherwise mostly the same on the outside. The inside is VERY similar, with the same molded material to fit The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun itself, the charging brick, and the massage heads. On the flip side is the mesh pouch which holds the USB-C cable, user manual, and their soft tissue guide.
This guide is probably something you’d pay $25+ for on its own. Tips and tricks to treat common ailments. Even stuff that doesn’t involve the massage gun. Stretches, strengthening exercises, and more. This is a unique offering that definitely adds to the top-tier factor of the The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun.
Compared to the other cases, this one feels more streamlined and works better. I like the small pouch that carries all of the massage heads. The other cases never seemed to really hold them in tight enough, and I was typically having to open the case and put things back each time. I still would like to see a zipper instead of the bungie chord on the mesh pouch, or even a snap button, but that is a small and low level request.
One thing I think they could do here, is change the charging brick and cable to be black. The massage gun, the massage heads, everything is black. Complete the uniform look. Again, small potatoes here in terms of complaints.
The Attachments
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun comes with 7 attachments. These are NOT interchangeable with the attachments from their other two massage guns. They are however, very similar. The big difference here is that the X6 came with the Titanium Alloy (metal) attachment head. And for whatever reason, the D6 does not. I tried out all of the attachments, and just like with previous massage guns I didn’t find that most of them were necessary.
I just don’t find that one provides a better massage in the neck, the other for the feet, you get it. I gravitated towards the one on the far right in this picture, the kind of wedge/paddle attachment. I personally found this to be the best at getting into all the nooks and crannies and really digging into the hamstrings and other beefier areas. It was the best at all things.
I will say that my wife likes a different attachment than I do, so it does still make sense to have multiple attachments come with the massage gun.
Multiple Modes
I found this to be a feature that sounds cool on paper, but I had no real world use for. The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun comes with a standard manual mode. This would be where you control the RPMs from 1500 to 2500, in increments of 200, both up and down. After a few weeks of use and getting accustomed to the power, I now use the 2500 on pretty much everything. The few changes I make might be when I have a particularly aggravated muscle that is sensitive to the touch.
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun also comes with 3 other modes, simply marked by M2, M3, and M4. M2 has an automatic increase in rpm from 1500 to 2500, in 5 second increments. It will cycle through that range over and over. M3 is the same, but decreases from 2500 to 1500. And M4 has a wave that goes from 1700 up to 2300 and then back down in 2 second waves.
I could, again, potentially see this helpful in a more clinical application. M2 would work well potentially to slowly get someone up to speed and full force. M3 would work well to bring the massage DOWN to a relaxing feeling. But I feel like 5 seconds, in practice, isn’t very much. And if I found that 1500 was good, 1700 was great, 1900 was right on the edge, I can’t stop there. There is no custom Mode. So if you don’t want the FULL wave, this is a no go. And again, it is 5 seconds or nothing on M2 and M3.
The booklet claims that M2 is for recovery, and M3 is for activating muscles before a workout. I’ve tried that in past years and never found it very useful. A good warm-up that addresses your weakpoints, opens you up, preps you for bracing and the movement patterns you are doing, is going to be exponentially better than a massage gun pre-workout.
Overall, the modes in the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun aren’t something I found useful or practical.
Ergonomics
The first three massage guns I owned had the same style. That solid battery grip, with the massage gun body at the top, and the massage gun head off the front. The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is built fundamentally different. I quickly found that the front was where the weight was, and I’m assuming where the battery is stored. The back is meant to be a handle.
If I’m using this in a clinical situation, or even on my wife, the ergonomics and design are awesome. I would primarily be holding onto the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun with the orientation of it being in front of me, likely with my patient either laying down or sitting up. So the weight being in the front would help keep it balanced in the hand. The grip of the backside fits well in the hand as well, meaning I could use this for fairly long without fatigue. My grip won’t wear out, I’m able to comfortably put pressure as needed, you name it.
Unfortunately, using a massage gun on yourself means the ergonomics are quite a bit different. The back portion that would be used as a handle in a clinical sitting, doesn’t work here. You have to turn a massage gun TOWARDS you, to use it on yourself. Which means when you hold the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun by the back handle, it naturally wants to rotate in your hand. You are left in most situations to sliding your hand through the center, and holding onto the front battery portion. Which isn’t exactly how this was designed.
This is where the angle adjustments kick in. Kind of.
Angle Adjustments
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun has a pretty unique feature in that the head can adjust in 6 different angles. The button just to the right of the logo in the pictures above, is what allows it to do this. You simply press that button down, and the angle can be adjusted any number of clicks up or down.
This is a cool feature… on paper. I never used it. The biggest reason why, is because you can’t exactly adjust it when the massage gun is in use. Think about it, you’d have to grab the massage gun head and adjust it while it does its thing back and forth. And unfortunately, the only way during use to stop the massage gun, is to turn it off. There is no pause feature. The closest thing is to hold down the MODE button, but you have to reset the power every time.
So if you are hammering away on those hammies with one angle, and decide that the biceps are next and need another angle. You need to turn the massage gun off, adjust the angle, turn it back on, get it back up to speed, and get to work. Want another angle for your lower back? Do it again. And again. And again. As mentioned, you can save a step or two by holding the Mode button, but you still have to get back up to speed.
So, I simply used the same standard angle, the entire time.
If you could easily pause, rotate and adjust, and get back to it, the angle adjustments would be great. As is, the time spent to pause, adjust, and reset everything, wasn’t outweighed by the annoyance of holding the massage gun awkwardly.
I could see this being a beneficial feature as is for a client. You might be able to get into different areas and apply more or less pressure with the correct angle as well. But for a dude using it on himself, I didn’t find this helpful.
Power and Overheating
I mentioned that the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is much more powerful than the X6. The interesting piece to the design, is that it also accounts for additional manual pressure. The screen will show if you begin to apply said pressure, and when you reach the maximum. Again, as someone using this on myself, I RARELY got there. I’m trying to relax with the massage gun, not blast myself into oblivion. Another feature that would be very helpful when using on another person, but not so much for me.
I will add one last piece about the power. I’m not sure what the maximum tolerable power output might be for me, but I don’t think I’ve reached it. So if Bob and Brad ever come out with a D8 (or whatever would be more powerful than the D6), count me in for testing!
The overheating aspect was mentioned in the product specs. I never found the unit to get hot, even when it auto shut-off at the 10 minute mark. I could easily turn it right back on and go for more work. So the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun from what I can tell, has no concerns of overheating. I’ll add that none of the other models seemed to either.
Which Massage Gun Should I Buy?
There are a TON of options on Amazon. Ranging from $20 to OVER $500! Some are clearly the same thing rebranded over and over, some have heat and cold options built in, and one even comes with Bluetooth control! So many, that I think you’d have to fill a warehouse full to have one of each. So I can not confidently say what is the BEST massage gun on the market.
What I can do, is tell you my experiences with the three Bob and Brad Massage Guns so you can choose which one is right for you. I think in a world of infinite choices, you eventually just have to pull the trigger on something good enough. Bob and Brad’s stuff so far has held up well, their prices overall seem fair, and their free content online is top notch, so I see no reason not to recommend them in general when searching for a massage gun.
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is their most expensive massage gun by quite a bit. For comparison, their other models all clock in under $100, while this sits around $250. That discount code, plus any sales they have, could bring you down to that $200 mark. But we are still talking close to DOUBLE the other offerings. So I don’t believe this is the right option for everyone.
The Bob and Brad C2 Massage Gun is the right choice for a lot of people. My wife gravitates to this one when she uses a massage gun. She only does so occasionally, she hates foam rolling, and in general likes much softer massages. I have to be careful to not go over the top when rubbing her back, legs, etc. If you fit into that category, this is the one for you.
The Bob and Brad X6 Pro Massage Gun was my go-to for the better part of a year. The battery life is fantastic, it comes with some unique attachments, and is quiet enough that you could stand in the corner of the room and use it while the family watches TV without being a disturbance (I’ve done this). If you are an average athlete, someone looking to incorporate a massage gun into your routine fairly regularly, but you aren’t 260lbs of beef, this is the one for you.
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is ultimately going to be my massage gun of choice going forward, replacing the X6. I didn’t find most of the “unique” features to be very useful for myself. The angle adjustments were clunky, the multiple modes didn’t seem to offer anything for me, and the attachments were missing my favorite option from the X6 offerings. But the USB-C charging is a win over the X6 Pro, and… if you are a bigger, thicker athlete looking for a more intense relationship with your massage gun, this is definitely it.
Going from the X6 to the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun, and then back, I felt underwhelmed by the X6. What once was a great massage, is now a light pat. So the D6 is without a doubt stronger and more robust in the deep tissue massage category for the bigger and badder athlete. If you absolutely need MORE in your massage, take a look at the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun.
Wrap Up
The Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is a good massage gun with some quality power behind it, but not what I would call perfect for the single person using it on themselves. The battery life isn’t as good as the X6, but it is more than doable.
I think the inclusion of a pause button that simply stops what you are doing, lets you adjust the angles, and get right back to it, would be a beneficial addition. I’d love to see the metal X6 attachment added here and likely all around include more metal and high end attachments for what should be their high end massage gun.
And I do think you are likely paying for multiple fancy modes that I just don’t see useful. But in the pursuit of the best massage for big athletes, the Bob and Brad D6 PRO Massage Gun is my current reigning champ.
